Family - Dogs - Squirrels - Drums - Halloween - Videogames.

Hi All, the main focus of our visit to Houston was of course to visit family. It was also extremely convenient as flights go direct from Auckland to Houston.

We hadn't seen my father and sister for 17 yrs and my mother for 8 yrs, so it was a beautiful emotional reunion and Lisa's first time meeting my brother-in-law Alex. It was amazing to reconnect.

We loved our time staying with our family and Amelia had the perfect guest room with an impressive drum kit as Alex is also a drummer. They had a blast playing for hours.

Kelly and Alex also have 2 very cool dogs and a foster dog that were super entertaining. We enjoyed walking them in the forest early before it got too hot. It was also exciting for Amelia and Lisa to see squirrels :)

Kelly, Alex and my parents live in a beautiful safe area in Houston, a bit magical really. It was cool to see all the Halloween decorations and this was 6 weeks before Halloween.

Oh, in a stunning turn of events, I got into the Houston vibe and bought a Cybertruck!

Kidding... Waaaaay too expensive, so I bought the next closest thing, a Delorean..

Well, not really but it's a nice segue into a cool time with Amelia at a classic arcade in Houston (where this Delorean was parked). A huge part of my childhood and FINALLY she was able to play these classic games for real! I loved every second of it, and she's an avid gamer too.

All in all an amazing trip to Houston and wonderful to catch up with everyone. We plan to drop in again on the way back to NZ + increase visits there now that Houston is so accessible.

NEXT STOP PRAGUE!

stay tuned...

Thanks for keeping us informed, Sean . It must be hard to find the time ( so no need to reply to this ) . It's great that you are able to do this , and I envy you the opportunity to travel , although I personally see no need to venture out of NZ to travel - I still haven't seen all of it . Safe travels . From Chris and Cindy , safely in our new residence .

So amazing. Family reunion. I had no idea it had been 17 years since you saw your dad and sister. I guess the internet and social media do a pretty good job at connecting people. Come to think of it, we haven't seen each other since 1996-ish. Almost 30 years. BTW: There's a good chance that I'm coming to NZ around August-ish next year (2026). Hope you're back before then. Would be a shame if I were there and missed seeing you.

Yeah, facetime gets better and better and time flies, life/work gets in the way, all of that. Grateful to finally be in a place where frequent trips are more possible. You guys will love NZ, I can definitely give you some tips and if around show you a great time in Dunedin (which is a sweet jump off point to Queenstown and Fiordland). We'd love to catch up! I recently passed the point of having lived in NZ longer than the USA. Keep in touch :)
